Some of the tubular stitches are ideal for making the ropes and cords; shown in Chapter 3 (page 62). The tubular version of these stitches can be used to make amulet purses or tiny bags without side seams. Look at the inspiration pages for some ideas or check out ‘Taking it Further’ on page 61 to learn how to use a tube loom. 1 At the end of the last full row, take the needle over the outer warp thread and through the number of beads to be decreased. Bring the needle out on the upper side and wrap around the new outer warp to the underside. 2 Pick up the beads for the next shorter row, press up between the warp threads and weave these in place as usual. 3 Continue decreasing beads at each end, to create the shaping. The decreasing technique looks particularly effective when used at each end of a bracelet. Here the shaping narrows the bracelet in an attractive ‘v’ shape, creating a more elegant finish, ready for the bead and loop fastening.

Tie the beads in a circle and pass back through the beads to come out at the top large bead. Pick up beads for the next unit and take the needle back through the beads as shown. When adding the next column of beads, remember to add the small bead between the two large beads that you are ‘borrowing’ from the adjacent units to complete the new unit so that there are four small beads in total. Right angle weave can be worked with more than four beads. This example keeps the square format with four size 6 beads and four size 11 seed beads in each unit.
